Javier Yanguas

Doctor in Psychology from the Autonomous University of Madrid, Master in Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Barcelona, MBA from the University of Deusto, Expert in Advanced Statistical Methods from the UNED and Expert in Adult Education from the Pontifical University of Salamanca.

He has worked at the Egogain Gerontological Center of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa (1989-1998), between 1999 and 2017, he has held different management positions at Matia Fundazioa and Matia Instituto; and between 2015 and 2019, he has been president of the European Section of Social and Behavioral Sciences of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics.

He has taught at various Spanish universities (such as the University of the Basque Country, the University of Deusto, the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Santiago de Compostela, the University of Valencia, etc.) and foreign universities (Catholic University of Chile, Cornell University in the USA, University of Porto,… among others) and has participated in very diverse national and international research projects.

Deserving of various awards, ACRA Award-(Catalan Association of Assistance Resources)-2015; IMSERSO Award for Research in Aging in 2004 and 2008; Research Award from the Areces Foundation-CHH Foundation in 2007; Social Research Award “Obra Social Caja Madrid” -2005), he has worked in international cooperation in areas of old age and aging.

He participates as a volunteer in very diverse associations related to both the rights of the most vulnerable people, as well as people in social exclusion, both children and adults.

He is the author of numerous articles, both scientific and in the written press, and several books related to care and intervention with older people. In October 2021, Destino published: “Steps for a new old age.”

Since 2017, he has been scientific director of the Seniors Program of the “la Caixa” Foundation and Project Director of Aubixa Fundazioa.
